Profiles of Completed Suicides (IN: The Harvard Medical School Guide to Suicide Assessment and Intervention, edited by D G Jacobs)

This chapter reviews studies of suicide that suggest both time-related correlates & common “clinical profiles” of patients who committed suicide. These data are summarized from a number of cases – 34 suicides in a follow-up study of 954 patients, 14 inpatients who committed suicide, & 30 outpatients who were in active treatment at the time of their suicide. Acute versus chronic suicide correlates are examined. 4 clinical profiles are provided & implications for clinicians are summarized.
