148 suicide events on Gotland, Sweden, between 1981 and 1996 confirmed the seasonality of suicide with a spring and summer peak between 1981 and 1989. This seasonality disappeared between 1990 and 1996, when prescription antidepressants increased dramatically, indicating that more and more depressed patients were pharmacologically treated.
