Hopelessness in a Community Population: Factorial Structure and Psychosocial Correlates

This study clarified the factorial structure of hopelessness in a nonclinical sample and examined the relationships between the dimensions of hopelessness & other suicide risk factors. 154 Japanese adults completed 3 questionnaires: the Beck Hopelessness Scale, the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire, & the Parental Bonding Instrument. This study found that the dimensions Doubt About a Hopeful Future & Belief About a Hopeless Future were related to other suicide risk factors. (30 refs.)
