The development of a local sector service in the UK for addressing suicide prevention is described. Its 5 part plan is provided: identification & assessment of those at risk for suicide; adequate, accessible services (e.g. crisis services, in-patient units); healthy alliances between health care & the community; the training & education of professionals & community agencies; and auditing & reviewing suicide when it does occur.
