Suicide Prevention Presentation for Families of Individuals With a Mental Illness

This pamphlet describes a presentation for families of individuals with mental illnesses. Attitudes & common myths about suicide, e.g. “most suicides occur with little warning,” are listed. Advice on recognizing & assessing suicide risk is given, including advice for those with schizophrenia or multiple psychotic episodes. Questions to ask to learn about one’s suicide plan are provided. 6 tasks for a helper to execute are provided, as well as helpful resources. Relapse prevention is emphasized.
