Correlates of the suicide rate among the elderly (65+) in each Canadian province were studied for the period 1993-95. Suicide rates were not significantly associated with the percentage of elderly people living alone, their average income or the percentage of elderly with low incomes. Suicide rates were higher in provinces where elderly people had higher incomes, yet where a greater percentage of them had low incomes. (3 refs.)
