Predictors of Suicide Attempts Among gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Youth

Predictors of past suicide attempts in 194 lesbian, gay, & bisexual youth were identified. In comparison to youths who had not attempted suicide, attempters reported that they had disclosed more completely their sexual orientation to others, had lost more friends because of this disclosure & had experienced more victimization due to their sexual orientation. The loss of friends due to a youth’s sexual orientation & current suicide ideation were among the strongest predictors of suicide attempts.
