This paper explores the relationships of inequality & economic development to suicide in a sample of 31 nations using both an approach which links homicide & suicide as 2 currents in a single stream of lethal violence & an approach which treats these events separately. Controlling for inequality, development is unrelated to total violence, curvilinearly related to the suicide-murder ratio, & only weakly related to suicide & homicide. (72 refs.)
