This paper is the first of a two-part review on the topic of stalking. It outlines the behaviours involved, epidemiology, motivation of offenders & mental health consequences for the victim. Results of a literature review show that the majority of victims are female while the offenders are usually male. An Australian study of 100 victims indicated that 24% had experienced suicidal thoughts. (25 refs.)
