Information on the suicides rates, ethnicity, & religious composition of the Swiss cantons was obtained for 1990. The suicide rates of the 26 cantons were not associated with the percentages of German-speaking, French-speaking, Protestant or Roman Catholic residents. Ethnicity & religious affiliation appear to play a smaller role in suicidal behaviour in the Swiss cantons in modern times than in the past. (3 refs.)
