This study describes course and outcome over 6 years for Swedish adults with eating disorders. The report includes information on 30 of the original 48 subjects who entered into the study in 1984. There were 2 deaths in the follow-up period, both were suicides. 77% of the 30 patients had no eating disorder diagnosis after 6 years. Mortality was 17.8 times higher than expected. The risk for premature death may be twice as high among bulimic as among restricting patients. (34 refs.)
