This report describes the first results from the Add Health study which was designed to provide comprehensive information about the factors which influence adolescent health & health behaviors. 9% of the youth surveyed reported suicidal thoughts but no attempts. Just under 4% had attempted suicide. Girls were twice as likely as boys to have made a suicide attempt. Teens who lived in the west & teens who reported that their parents received welfare were also more likely to have attempted suicide.
