The case of a 38-year-old man who attempted suicide by shooting himself with a crossbow is reported. After surgery, the patient had an uneventful post-operative course. A literature review found that almost all suicidal & accidental crossbow injuries occur among males. The authors suggest that access to sports weapons in Germany should be more restricted. (17 refs.)
