Suicidal Behavior in Schizophrenia (IN: Review of Suicidology, 1997, edited by R W Maris, M M Silverman & S S Canetto)

Current empirical literature on suicidal behaviour in schizophrenia is reviewed. Demographic, psychosocial, biological, course-of-illness related, & treatment-related factors associated with suicide & suicide attempts in this disorder are examined. Problems in the prediction of suicidal behaviour in schizophrenia are discussed. The chapter concludes with a brief discussion of the implications of contemporary research findings for suicide risk management in schizophrenia. (164 refs.)
