The association between the suicide rate for Canadian provinces & marriage, birth, divorce, & unemployment rates was studied for the period 1960-85. Multiple regressions were run with a correction for serial autocorrelation in the data set. The effect of divorce on the provincial suicide rate was positive in all 10 provinces, significantly so in five. The effects of the marriage, birth & unemployment rates were inconsistent. (5 refs.)
