A study was done to investigate the excessive mortality among Swedish young people with criminal records. Two groups of young offenders were compared with two matched control groups with no criminal records. Data presented in this session showed an excess of mortality among the young people with criminal records. Suicide & uncertain intent predominated as causes of death among boys. It was argued that early social isolation was a risk factor. Some prevention strategies were mentioned.
