Community Life Promotion – an Aboriginal Community Approach to Suicide Prevention

A best practice pilot project to establish a culturally appropriate mental health service in aboriginal communities was discussed in this poster session. A community development approach was used in the planning & implementation of the program. It is believed suicide prevention begins at birth & continues throughout life. Suicide support programs offer counselling, referrals, & diversionary & art therapies. Other projects in development include parenting workshops, youth & womens’ groups.
