Non-registration of Deaths as a Source of Error in Mortality: Data in the Republic of Ireland

A previous study on the under-reporting of suicide in County Mayo, Ireland was replicated by the authors. Records of people buried in 1992 were obtained from parish registers & compared to the official registry of deaths for that year. This poster discussed the study results which showed that non-registration of death continues to be a problem in this county. The international literature on under-reporting of suicide was also reviewed.
