The relationship between cannabis abuse/dependence & the risk of a medically serious suicide attempt was examined in 302 suicide attempters & in 1028 comparison subjects. Data presented in this poster showed that 16.2% of attempters met DSM-III-R criteria for cannabis abuse/dependence at the time of the attempt. Results suggested that cannabis abuse/dependence, in the absence of psychosocial adversity or concurrent mental disorders, is not associated with risk of serious suicidal attempts.
