The authors examined suicide attempts among living cotwins of twin suicide victims. A new sample of 35 twins whose cotwin had committed suicide was studied. Eleven of the 27 living monozygotic cotwins had themselves attempted suicide compared with none of the 8 living dizygotic cotwins. Data suggests that genetic factors play a part in suicidal behaviour.
