This workshop gave an overview of suicide prevention in Australia beginning with questions of what is suicide, is everyone trying to prevent the same thing, & should suicide be prevented at all. A number of issues relating to prevention were discussed including what should be the focus of prevention activities, who should be involved, & what is practical. The comparative value of research versus treatment was examined. The current state of prevention & future directions were also reviewed.
