Botsis discussed the data on serotonin which provides the only compelling evidence of a neurotransmitter related to suicide & violence. Decreased levels of 5-hydroxy-indoleacetic acid in the cerebrospinal of patients who have attempted suicide have been found consistently. It was concluded that impulsivity & not premeditated agression suggests an underlying psychopathological entity more likely to be associated with 5-HT dysfunction.
