3042 young people, ages 15-24, in the Danish school system answered a questionnaire on background factors for suicidal ideation & suicide attempts. Results showed that about 40% had thought of suicide at least once & almost 1 in 20 confirmed they had attempted suicide. Nearly 1 in 10 had experienced suicide in the family. Frequent or chronic suicidal ideation & self-destructive behaviour can be considered risk factors for suicide attempts & possible predictors of future suicidal behaviour.
