From Theory to Practice: do we Really Listen? 1 – The Clinical-Prevention Position (IN: Suicide Prevention: The Global Context. Proceedings of the 19th Congress of the IASP…, ed. by R J Kosky et al)
Berman A L
Berman briefly describes 2 current approaches to dealing more effectively with the American youth suicide problem. One is from a public health prevention model with a focus on firearms & the other is from a clinical-intervention model focusing on adolescents at risk. The clinical-intervention model is based on early detection, targeted treatment & attempts to alter the pathways to suicide. The prevention model is based in research & strategies developed from the research findings. (19 refs.)
