This article discusses the role of mental illness in suicide risk among Australian males aged 15-24 years. Various disorders are discussed including affective disorders, schizophrenia, & psychosis. Suicide rates in first episode psychiatric population are reviewed. An overview of suicide prevention at the Centre for Young People’s Mental Health is given including intervention approaches.
