This article outlines 4 objectives that were discussed as part of a “Healthy People 2010” workshop. These include: 1) reducing suicides in the USA to no more than 10.5 per 100,000 people; 2) reduce by 15% the incidence of injurious suicide attempts among youth aged 14-17; 3) extend protocols for identifying, treating & referring suicide attempters & other victims of violence to at least 90% of hospital emergency room departments; & 4) suicide prevention in jails.
