Highlights of the XIXth Congress of the IASP held in Australia on March 23-27, 1997 are presented. The wide variety of conference topics included: suicides in indigenous groups, euthanasia & assisted suicide, suicide & the media, adolescent suicidal behavior, elderly suicides, suicides in detention, gay & lesbian suicides, cognitive behavioral therapy, prevention & postvention programs. The next biannual conference will be held in Athens, Greece.
