This study explored the concurrent validity of status integration in order to clarify what it measures. Measures of status integration for 30 American states in 1950 & measures of 13 social characteristics of those states were obtained. Results indicated that status integration was not strongly correlated with many of the social characteristics commonly associated with suicide & so it may be a useful additional variable. (5 refs.)
