This document characterizes borderline disorders (BDs) as a spectrum of psychopathology incorporating all patients referred to as borderline in psychiatric literature. Although suicide risk is a shared feature of BDs, and affective disorder (AD), the overall relationship between the 2 categories remains ill defined.
