Differences and similarities of suicide were examined, in Asian populations which are all ethnically Chinese and share some characteristics of culture, but which have very different social and political environments. From 1987-1994, the rate of suicide per 100,000 were 10.6 and 11.3 respectively in China; 9.3 and 6.6 respectively in Taiwan; and 9 and 5.9 in Beijing respectively.
