The study objective is to describe preventable pediatric injuries and the proportion receiving documented injury prevention instruction by emergency department personnel. The authors defined person-to-person injuries as those inflicted through direct body contact or with a gun or sharp object, regardless of intent. In the person-to-person group 23.1% were determined to be preventable, and 22.4% had injury prevention instruction indicated.
