The objective of this paper is to document the types of firearms associated with firearm fatalities, and to determine the availability of information on firearm characteristics in existing data sources. The data included 175 firearm suicides investigated in the City of Milwaukee, Wisconsin from 1990 through 1994. The results showed handguns accounted for 124 (74%) of firearm suicides.
