The regional distribution of the suicide rate, rate of diagnosed depression & prevalence of working physicians in Hungary was investigated. A strong significant positive correlation was found between the rate of working physicians & rate of diagnosed depression, & both parameters showed a strong significant negative correlation with the suicide rate. The higher rate of working physicians in western Hungary may have a role in the lower suicide mortality in this region. (28 refs.)
