This proceeding presents characteristics of 53 adolescents who died by suicide in Finland. The mean age of these adolescents was 17.4 years & the most common method of suicide was firearms, hanging & drug ingestion. Many of the adolescents had: a DSM-III-R diagnosis, attempted suicide previously, & communicated suicidal ideation to friends or family. Implications of these results for suicide prevention & intervention are discussed. (8 refs) (SC)
