Characteristics of Adolescent Suicides – a Psychological Autopsy Study of Suicides Among 13 to 19 Year Olds in Finland

This proceeding presents characteristics of 53 adolescents who died by suicide in Finland. The mean age of these adolescents was 17.4 years & the most common method of suicide was firearms, hanging & drug ingestion. Many of the adolescents had: a DSM-III-R diagnosis, attempted suicide previously, & communicated suicidal ideation to friends or family. Implications of these results for suicide prevention & intervention are discussed. (8 refs) (SC)
