This presentation outlines the nature of an experimental competence-based prevention program for high-risk youth & young adults focussing on general problem-solving skills & social competence. Participants (active-duty military personnel) are randomly assigned to 1 of 2 treatment conditions. Preliminary available data from extensive follow-up of 214 male & 43 female participants indicate dramatic & significant improvement in those who completed the experimental competence-based program.
