Helping Self-Destructive People and Those Mourning Suicide (IN: People in Crisis: Understanding and Helping 4th Edition, by L A Hoff)
Hoff L A
People who get help after a suicide attempt or other self-destructive behavior may never commit suicide. Much depends on what happens in the form of emergency, crisis & follow-up intervention. However, when suicide does occur, survivors of suicides usually are in crisis & are often neglected because of cultural taboos & the lack of aggressive outreach programs. Children, spouses & parents who lose a loved one by suicide are especially vulnerable if they do not receive support during this crisis.
