This summary document outlines 7 conclusions formulated as a result of research on the epidemiology, knowledge, & attitudes towards suicide in the Ukraine. The study results identify obstacles for creating effective preconditions to suicide prevention in the posttotalitarian society. In addition to noting the existence of a “Soviet Syndrome,” the research revealed the prevalence of mythical ideas concerning suicide, & an inadequacy of professional knowledge & psychiatric education.
