This paper describes the Suicide Prevention Programme established in Norway in 1993. It details the program plan at the community, regional, & national level; provides an overview of preventative measures to be taken; & reports on activities undertaken during the first year, with particular emphasis on the training efforts. This paper also presents a historical perspective on suicide rates & compares the Norwegian rate to that of other Scandinavian countries.
