There is a great deal of controversy over the reliability of recovered memories of childhood sexual abuse. Increases in self-injury & suicide attempts have been reported in some patients given recovered memory treatment. In this position paper, the Canadian Psychiatric Association offers brief advice for all members who are involved in circumstances where recovered memories of sexual abuse play a role. This advice is set out in the form of 7 conclusions & recommendations.
