Wolfelt says that there are four major influences that impact adolescents who experience the death of someone in their lives. In this article, he discusses the first of these influences – concurrent development tasks. Adolescence is the time when youth begin to separate from family yet they are still dependent upon their family for many psychological & physical needs. The death of a family member threatens the maintenance of these needs.
