The Role of Transference and Countertransference in the Teaching and Learning of Suicidology (IN: Intervention and Prevention, ed. by U Bille-Brahe and H Schi¿dt)
Wasserman D
This presentation discussed teaching strategies in suicidology. Teaching methods should strive to promote assimilative & accomodative types of learning for trainees, i.e. they should not only learn facts but also understand process & context, especially suicidal patients’ transference reactions & the trainees’ own countertransference reactions to the psychodynamics of suicidal individuals & their families. It is stated that single lectures or study days out of context are not the right model.
