This chapter analyzes 2 questions concerning the relationship between the mass media & suicide. First, how the mass media present suicide & what social attitudes are reflected in mass media reports; & second, how the changing presentations of self-destruction in the media effects suicides in a society as well as attitudes toward suicide. Data from German & Hungarian newspapers were collected from January 1991 through May 1992. (29 refs.)
