The town of Karasjok, Norway had a high rate of suicide among young men in the 1980s. Healthcare & community workers came together to organize an emergency intervention service for suicidal patients & postvention services for the bereaved. This crisis highlighted the need for preventive health services among youth. This paper describes preventive health programs, in particular a “Contraception Office”, that now exists in Karasjok. A brief evaluation of the programs is also included. (9 refs.)
