Abstract
Suicide Prevention and Response Addressed by law
Several American states have statutes of special significance to educators dealing with suicide issues. This article reviews statutes from the following states: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, Illinois, Florida, Maine, & New Jersey. A case from the Maryland Court of Appeals is also presented: school counsellors were found to have breached a common law duty to intervene to prevent suicide when they did not inform a parent about his child’s suicidal statements.
