This article continues discussion on altruism & focuses on burnout. When a volunteer ceases to act as a mentally & emotionally healthy individual, callers are denied the beneficial services of a person on whom they have depended. Burnout distorts caring by misapplying the content &/or process of the calls & may be regarded as the culmination of other types of distortion of caring. Reasons for burnout: over-commitment, superhuman syndrome, & misunderstanding the work & goals of the organization.
