This chapter reviews common risk factors that Puerto Rican adolescents share with other non-Latino youth & discusses contextual risk factors unique to Puerto Rican/Hispanic adolescents. It focuses on sociocultural & family situations that influence suicide attempts & that can inform treatment. The migration experience, the dynamics of acculturation, & intergenerational family process are especially germane to family treatment. Case vignettes illustrate family-centered treatment. (23 Refs.)
