It is argued that reducing the suicide rate through treatment depends on the development of new knowledge & technology, emphasizing early intervention & continuing low-intensity contact for suicidal people. Computer programs will be invaluable in improving training for caregivers & improving communication networks to maintain a continuity of care. Other developments include defining various treatment approaches so that research can clarify what treatment helps which type of suicidal patient.
