A cross-cultural perspective was used to investigate patterns of suicide in Canada & the USA. Studies of rates & patterns, homicide & suicide, facts & myths, psychological aspects, attitudes toward suicide, & domestic & economic variables are reported. Canada has a higher rate & different pattern of suicide than the USA. Differences were noted in attitudes toward suicide – younger Canadians saw suicide as more normal & acceptable. A historical explanation of these findings is provided.
