This article discusses 5 specific legal liability concerns including the legal distinction between pain management & euthanasia or physician-assisted suicide. Shapiro states that to avoid exposure to criminal prosecution for aiding suicide, physicians should: 1) prescribe medication that accords with good medical judgment; 2) clearly communicate their rationale for pain medication prescriptions; & 3) clearly document the intent behind & need for the medication prescribed.
