In this article, the results obtained by Shearin & Linehan in a few controlled trials of dialetical behavior therapy in borderline personality disorder patients are reviewed. Differences between their treatment approach & that favoured by Perris – restructuring dysfunctional working models of environment & self – are highlighted. It is concluded that the use of a structured, didactic & cognitive-behaviourally oriented approach focused on personal growth might represent a treatment breakthrough.
